A Florida native and nurse by profession, Carly always enjoyed hobbies such as quilting and other needlework crafts. Some of her favorite crafts are designing whimsical folk art dolls and animals, especially Santa’s out of muslin and other various fabrics. Opting to be a stay at home and raise her husband and two boys, her favorite pastime soon became a career. Carly’s soft sculpted folk Santa’s and other dolls were shipped to stores and folk art shows to be sold around the country. She also spent three years as a contracted design artist for Midwest of Cannon Falls.
One day, she happened upon a teddy bear workshop given by renowned Teddy Bear Artist Ann Inman and made her first bear. Carly now also specializes in teddy bears that have a whimsical, not to serious appeal most likely dating back to her folk art roots. More recently, Carly has been working on designing bears that have a primitive appeal to them and has developed a line called “Blackwater Bears.” Embodied in their creation is a combination of her long love and passion for folk art primitives and her even longer love for Teddy Bears (way back when she was little!).
